Nursery Nurse

This description highlights the main areas for which the Nursery Nurse is responsible. •        Helping to ensuring a happy, stimulating and safe environment for the children, and that company policies and procedures are closely followed.
•        To communicate effectively with all members of staff and act professionally at all times.
•        To immediately notify the supervisor or deputy of any complaints received or any situations that may be detrimental to the company.
•        Safeguarding children and ensuring an excellent level of education and care.
•        To support other members of staff within the nursery, endeavouring at all times to maintain a harmonious relationship with all your colleagues.
•        To avoid involvement in staff gossip, understanding the impact this has on team work and ultimately the quality of care given to the children.
•        To maintain confidentiality, not to disclose information about children, parents and staff and to understand which circumstances warrant confidentiality to be broken, with reference to company policy and procedure.
•        To develop and maintain successful and professional relationships with parents and carers.
•        To accurately maintain nursery records such as registers, accident and incident books and staff signing book etc.
•        To ensure that all consumable supplies are used with due economy.
•        To notify your line manager of any significant problems as they arise.
•        Notifying any form of discrimination in either the context of the staff or children immediately to a senior manager.


•        Planning and participation in the schedule of daily activities.
•        Participation in meal times and feeding arrangements, ensuring close supervision and adherence to the allergy and dietary requirements of each child.
•        Make observations of children through play and identify planning aims.
•        To accurately and effectively complete children’s development books.
•        Daily contact with parents, ensuring all parents are fully informed about their child’s progress and given due regard to their concerns and questions.
•        Ensuring children are received in an appropriate manner and only released to authorised adults.
•        Participation in cleaning, toileting and nappy rotas.
•        To take charge of a key group of children, as assigned to you by your line manager, and be involved in the preparation of parents evening.
•        To ensure planned activities meet the children’s individual needs.


•        Compliance with all Health and Safety legislation and such provisions as ensure the well being of the children.
•        Observance of the companies’ policies and procedures and ensuring you understand and comply with your responsibilities.
•        Remaining vigilant and notifying any significant problems as they arise to the supervisor.
•        To have a clear understanding of procedures to follow in the case of an emergency e.g. fire, accident, safeguarding issues etc
•        To ensure the nursery is kept clean and hygienic.
•        To carry out checks and risk assessments as appropriate and advised by your line manager.
•        Ensuring the companies medicine procedures are adhered to.


•        Undertaking such task as may arise from time to time which bear on the well being of the nursery not elsewhere described.
•        Working at other settings in the Lawnswood Childcare organisation in an emergency.
•        Attendance on courses, seminars and events relating to your personal advancement or operation of the nursery outside of normal working hours.
•        Attendance at staff meetings outside of normal working hours.
•        Travel by your own vehicle for nursery purposes.
•        Being aware of environmental concerns and in particular making sure energy consumption is kept to a minimum.
